This week marked an exciting milestone for me as I embarked on my first portfolio project—an opportunity to design a concert merchandise app for punk bands. The project not only involves creating a visually appealing and user-friendly app but also delving deep into understanding the needs of potential users and considering their accessibility requirements. To kickstart this endeavor, I focused on empathizing with users and developing two design personas that would guide my design process.
Understanding the target audience is crucial in creating a successful app that resonates with its users. In the case of the concert merchandise app, it was essential to empathize with punk music enthusiasts who would utilize the app to access and purchase band merchandise. I dived into extensive research to gain insights into their preferences, habits, and potential accessibility needs.
As part of my research, I explored online communities, forums, and social media platforms, as well as my friends and loved ones. By immersing myself in their conversations and discussions, I gained valuable insights into their preferences regarding band merchandise, their concert experiences, and their expectations from an app that caters specifically to the punk genre.
Accessibility is a vital aspect of designing any digital product, ensuring that it is inclusive and usable by individuals with diverse abilities. To create an app that caters to the needs of all users, I delved into understanding possible accessibility requirements within the punk music community.
I conducted in-depth research on accessible design principles, focusing on factors such as color contrast, font size, and screen reader compatibility. Additionally, I explored potential challenges faced by individuals with visual impairments, hearing disabilities, or mobility issues and brainstormed ways to address these concerns within the app's design and functionality.
To further guide my design process and decision-making, I developed two design personas that embodied typical users of the concert merchandise app. These personas represent fictional characters who encompass the key characteristics, goals, and accessibility needs of the target audience.
Persona 1: Carly Ray

Persona 2: Jain Rama

By creating these design personas, I gained a deeper understanding of the needs, preferences, and challenges faced by potential users of the concert merchandise app. These personas will serve as a compass throughout the design process, ensuring that the app caters to the target audience while addressing their accessibility requirements.
Embarking on the journey of designing a concert merchandise app for punk bands has been a fun experience so far. By empathizing with potential users, understanding their accessibility needs, and developing design personas, I have set a strong foundation for the upcoming weeks of this project. I look forward to leveraging these insights to create a visually appealing, user-friendly, and inclusive app that will serve as a valuable platform for punk music enthusiasts to connect with their favorite bands and merchandise. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting endeavor!
